1. It’s better to be the person that says “hello” and is ignored than the person that avoids eye contact.

2. Sometimes loyalty is the only quality you need in a friend.  Forget similar interests or identical senses of humor; if you can each count on each other being there when you need it most, you might’ve just found an invaluable friend for life.

3. Always take your make-up off at night—no matter how tired/drunk/rushed you might be.  You won’t regret it when you avoid the raccoon eyes the next morning or the break-out a week later.

4. Never tell someone when he or she looks sick or tired; they probably already feel it.

5. On that note, never point out someone’s sunburn; trust me, they already know.

6. Don’t judge someone for not drinking.  Don’t judge someone for drinking too much.  Don’t judge someone for…

Why No One Really Compares To The People You Grew Up With

Thought Catalog

You can’t always stay as close as you were. There will eventually come a time when everyday texting becomes the weekly “how are you?” and a catch-up call every once in a while. But it doesn’t matter. You don’t have to share every detail of your lives like you once did. The strength of a friendship is not defined by how many texts are sent or meaningless daily details are shared or how often you physically spend time with one another.

You grow up and go your separate ways, and you meet new friends and become close with them too. They are your roommates, classmates, coworkers and neighbors. They’re great. They’re close. They don’t know you like the people you grew up with. They don’t know you like the people you tried your first beer with and spent your Saturday nights in high school with. They don’t know your embarassing, dramatic first heartbreaks, your family’s…

Roomie Love

Alas it is time for another blog post. I’ve been thinking a lot about my roommates while I’ve been home for christmas break. I miss them! It’s actually surprising to me that we have all gotten along so well this first semester. This year I’m living in an apartment and get my own room, but I had to choose two people to room with. It was quite dramatic trying to figure out who I wanted to live with this year. I wasn’t confident that living with my friends was a good idea, but I thought I should just give it a try; it would really be a test of our friendship. Both my roommates are basically complete opposites when it comes to cleanliness, and then I’m in the middle. E is SUPER clean. It’s actually nice to come home to a clean apartment with the smell of clorox wipes. She initiates Sundays as cleaning day and always cleans the toilet. She’s a keeper, really. I do my part in vacuuming and keeping the counters clean as well. (does anyone else find it weird that vacuum has two U’s?) I suppose we all do our part. A is not like E at all. She cleans if she sees it is necessary, which is never. I kid I kid! But if you walk into their room, you can tell which side is E’s and which side is A’s. That’s all I need to say.

Here they are:

This depicts our lives on a daily. On another note, we get along pretty well actually. We basically bicker about stupid things like sisters would. And they like to pester me like an annoying little sister would. Sometimes I want some peace and quiet, so I go into my room and shut my door and both of them stand outside my door knocking until I say come in. And then they don’t leave me alone. But we are pretty honest with each other so if they’re bothering me, I tell them. Now whether they listen or not depends, but we still are honest.

I’ve realized that I really really like living by myself. Having roommates means compromising, making sacrifices and lots and lots of patience, all of which can be quite difficult. My first year at college I was blessed to have an amazing roommate. We weren’t best friends, but we were great roommates. We never had any problems or fights. She provided a great atmosphere to live in free of drama and conflicts and filled with great conversations and many laughs. Then last year I was an RA so I got my own room. Compared to most of my friends, I had a great roommate experience, but I still like living by myself. It is a much different experience thinking of the needs of two other people as opposed to just yourself.

I guess we will see how I feel after this second semester, but I think first semester was a success. I even miss seeing my two roommies as I am sitting here at my house. I can’t wait to get back to school to see them and catch up. It’s been too long since I’m used to seeing them every single day for many hours on end. 🙂

Yay for my 6th semester of college! Let’s do it!

All About Ed Sheeran

I was trying to think about what to write while I’m sitting in my apartment, so I was looking around and saw my poster of Ed Sheeran hanging on my wall. Of course I’m gonna talk about him! AKA my favorite singer/songwriter in general. I say in general because I change my favorites day to day, but I always come back to Ed Sheeran.

Where do I begin. Well I first discovered Ed’s music when I was on YouTube (where else) and there was an ad before the video (which now I just laugh at because Adblock has saved my life). Anyways, this ad was for Victoria’s Secret. Me, being the person that must know the name of every unknown song I hear, went cray cray. I figured out that the song was called “Give Me Love”.

Little did I know that this was the beginning to a beautiful appreciation for this guy from the UK. This was June 30, 2012. I know this because I looked at my iTunes and saw that I downloaded the song that morning at 2am, probably right after I heard it. I then began to listen to his music non-stop, which is what I tend to do when I find new music. I showed my little sister his music and she fell in love, too. It was kind of one of those things where no one really knew about him in the United States yet, so he was like my own little secret obsession. Only the hipsters knew about him. Hahahaha. He started to get noticed, especially since his song “A Team” was single of the week on iTunes. By that time, I basically had his whole album downloaded on my computer and was listening to him every hour of every day. He is truly an amazing artist.

I think that what I find most amazing about him is that he writes all of his own music. Basically all the songs on his album + are about his girlfriend at the time, Alice. The fact that he writes his own song is so rare these days; even the most famous singers all have people that write music for them to sing. I really think he deserves more credit; it’s hard to write song! And his songs are so lyrical and aesthetically pleasing to the ear. Like I don’t know how he comes up with some of this stuff:

“Wake Me Up”

So I’ll take you to the beach
And walk along the sand
And I’ll make you a heart pendant
With a pebble held in my hand
And I’ll carve it like a necklace
So the heart falls where your chest is
And now a piece of me is a piece of the beach
And it falls just where it needs to be
And rests peacefully
So you just need to breathe
To feel my heart against yours now, against yours now

‘Cause maybe I’m just in love when you wake me up

And if you want to hear how well it flows with the music go to 2:46

I think a big part of why he is not super famous is because he is not the cutest looking dude in all the land. It is so evident that looks really get you places- Justine Bieber, One Direction, The Wanted- plus, people just like boy bands. When Ed Sheeran performs it is just him, his guitar, microphone, and his loop pedal. I got to experience his amazing performance when I got to see him in concert September 26, 2012 with my little sister. BEST DAY EVER. I didn’t know all of his songs when we went to his concert, but his concert was still incredible. It was definitely my favorite concert I’ve ever been to, and I’ve been to a lot!

After the concert, my sister and I were on an Ed-high and could not stop listening to his music. I bought his CD and listened to it over and over again. I now know every word to every song on his album +. I also found his older songs from when he was just releasing singles back in the day. I don’t know why I haven’t gotten sick of his music yet. His CD is in my car and since my radio antenna is busted, I listen to his CD every time. His lyrics are just so meaningful and the melodies with those words are beautiful. Ed Sheeran is a legend in my mind, and I hope other people will take the time to appreciate his phenomenal music.

Be nice to everyone, always smile, and appreciate things because it could all be gone tomorrow. -Ed Sheeran

Summer Days As a Nanny

As my father has so nicely reminded me, it’s been awhile since I’ve posted something on here! So much for posting everyday…

This summer has literally just flown by. I now have only a month until I move back in to school.  It’s kind of freaking me out. I’ve be staying pretty busy though. My summer days have consisted of escorting children around as well as entertaining them. We go to the beach or the amusement park. It’s all fun and games. I really haven’t had any problems with the kiddos this summer. My good friend is also a nanny and she and her two kids like to play with my kids. It’s a good time.Image

We also went to the zoo last week. The kids really liked it, but I have a feeling the the 1 year old had no idea what was going on. This little guy had too much fun and passed out in the car on our way home.

I really do like being a nanny. I mean I don’t want to be a nanny for the rest of my life, but it sure does pay the bills! And I also really like kids. I’m surprised that I haven’t become sick of kids for how long I have been babysitting (almost 9 years). I still love each and everyone of them. Cheesy, I know. I only have 5 weeks left with these little ones. I better make them count!

Summer Life

As the end of the school year approached and I anticipated my summer vacation, I didn’t expect it to be quite like this. Since I don’t start nannying until June, this entire month of May has been me sleeping until 12 and then doing housework, watching my mom’s daycare kids, or watching my new favorite show, The Big Bang Theory. I don’t know how my mom stays sane with all these kids.

I know I should take advantage of the down-time I have because once I start babysitting erryday, I’m gonna be pooped. I’m excited for blogging about my life, even though I’m pretty sure I’ll be the only one reading this. Ah well.
